Founded in 2003, Transitional Designs is known for designs that are highly original and artfully distinctive yet also comfortable and livable. Owner and Principal Designer, Javier Fernandez’s design wisdom and work have been featured in national outlets including Veranda.com, VUE, and HGTV.com, among others.

Having worked with an exclusive clientele and designed homes in some of the most important buildings in New York City, Connecticut, New Jersey, and Florida, Javier and the team of contractors and vendors he meticulously curates are not only highly skilled, but also easy to work with, personable, and discrete.

I take great pride in the designs I create. Although the projects have evolved over the years, the original thrill of looking at a space and envisioning all it can be is still there. For me, nothing compares to the excitement of seeing an amazing space that was once only an idea and knowing I made it come to life.

Just like my style icons, the likes of which include Dorothy Draper, Diana Vreeland, and Iris Apfel, I strive to ignore conventional rules and nay-sayers, choosing instead to make my way on my own terms and most importantly, never giving up.

Working within each client’s unique style, I create seamless fusions of both past and present styles to achieve the modern classic aesthetic that’s become my signature. Though each has its own uniqueness, by crafting a harmony of colors, textures, and silhouettes, the finished spaces all express a balance of refined luxury with comfortable livability.

I pride myself on pushing boundaries and breaking free from the ordinary. My designs are a testament to my unwavering commitment to thinking outside of the box and exploring uncharted realms of creativity. My mantra is, “Everything is possible,” as I continually strive to innovate whatever I or my clients dream up, persisting until the vision is feasible to create spaces that captivate and inspire.

As the head of my design firm, I espouse a ‘the bucks stop here’ approach. I work hard to vet vendors and contractors and only hire those I can trust to work on my clients’ projects. When challenges arise or something goes wrong, I take responsibility and work to find solutions. I've learned that if I keep pressing ahead, with enough patience and persistence, it WILL all work out.

As important as design is to me, my relationships with my clients matter even more. I am fortunate to have garnered a slate of amazing long-term clients and have had the privilege of meeting many inspiring people in my career. I like to think that what I do adds intrinsic value and beauty to each of my clients’ lives even as they have added to mine.
